Recently, the RBI directed Tata Sons to list on Indian stock exchanges by September 2025. This decision is the outcome of the RBI classifying Tata Sons as a “upper-layer” NBFC, requiring the business to go public within three years.
Consequently, Tata Sons appears to be gearing up for this move. Last week, it raised $1 billion by selling part of its 72% interest in Tata Consultancy.
These proceeds could be used to pay down debt and streamline the holding company in preparation for a public offering. Following this, the company plans to float another eight privately held companies on the Indian stock market.
