Beijing’s Lamdre has been named the American Express One To Watch Award laureate for 2024. This honor is given to restaurants that show the gastronomic brilliance, inventiveness, and culinary potential to be included in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in the future. It is decided by the event organizers in collaboration with their regional consultants.
Lamdre is named after the Tibetan Buddhist meditation method, which serves as an inspiration. It also symbolizes the owner Zhao Jia’s culinary philosophy, which emphasizes deliciousness, sustainability, and nature. Veteran chef Dai Jun curates the restaurant’s seasonal vegetarian menu. In just a little more than a year, the modern restaurant, tucked away in a calm nook of Sanlitun, Beijing, has grown to become a culinary destination. Lamdre provides a groundbreaking and innovative plant-based eating experience with an unwavering dedication to respecting ingredients and enhancing production.
“The dining experience at Lamdre is beautiful – from the tranquil setting to the sophisticated cuisine that pay homage to nature’s richness,” says William Drew, Director of Content for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. This award is well-deserved because Chef Dai and Zhao Jia presented a concept that is quite unique.”
Lamdre takes inspiration from the land and the sea to create recipes that transcend regional and culinary boundaries. The culinary team’s dedication to finding the freshest, most in-season ingredients and presenting them to represent the “pure essence of food” yields dishes that are devoid of superfluous elaboration, highlighting each ingredient’s inherent beauty. A fundamental component of Lamdre’s philosophy is sustainability, which promotes mindful eating that puts the health of the environment first.
Zhao states, “We are honored and humbled to be the recipients of the coveted American Express One To Watch Award from Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. We would want to express our appreciation to the organization, the visitors for their love and support, and the team members for their commitment and diligence. We’re committed to upholding the values of running a sustainable and healthful restaurant that highlights the wonders of nature and the complex, alluring flavors of the Eastern plant kingdom.”
