This week marked the 16th anniversary of the Taiwan Lantern Festival’s return to Tainan! The event, which is well-known for its magnificent paper lanterns, is even more spectacular because it falls on Tainan’s 400th anniversary.
Many lanterns at the event represent the mythological monster, the dragon, since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon in Chinese culture, which is famed for its fortunate power.
The primary points of interest of the festival are ideally situated near Tainan’s High-Speed Rail station and at Anping Recreational Wharf. Since the Lantern Festival began on February 24, these places have been converted into a vibrant tapestry of lights, drawing more than 7 million visitors, proving how popular it is.
In order to maintain sustainability and ease of mobility for all attendees, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has organized buses from the HSR station to facilitate access to these enchanted sites. Parking lots and additional parking spaces are available for those driving.
Three Canadian video makers, each with a distinct travel viewpoint, were invited to Taiwan by TTA in order to promote the festival abroad. Three individuals were chosen to document the festival using their unique perspectives: Sahil, an explorer of magnificent landscapes, Ryan, a gourmet food enthusiast, and Isabelle, who is well-known for her concentration on stunning vacation places.
Taiwan’s stance as “The Heart of Asia” is strengthened by this partnership, which highlights the country’s dedication to presenting its culture and natural beauty to a worldwide audience.
TTA’s participation in the Bay Area Travel and Adventure Show, which takes place in the Santa Clara Convention Center on March 16–17, 2024, would further Taiwan’s promotion in North America.
International visitors to the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival will receive complimentary welcome gifts from February 24 to March 10, which include a little lantern representing the zodiac sign, a limited-edition OhBear gift, and a ticket for the seating area of the Lantern Festival sound and light display.
