With the goal of starting operations as early as 2025, Joby Aviation, Inc. (NYSE:JOBY), a company that develops all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch air taxi services in the Emirate by early 2026.
Joby also inked a contract with Skyports, which will plan, construct, and run the first four vertiport locations in Dubai. The start venues for Dubai’s air taxi service include Dubai International Airport (DXB), Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Dubai Downtown, which have been selected in collaboration with RTA, Skyports, and Joby.
Speaking on the development, Joby’s CEO JoeBen Bevirt said:
“Today’s landmark agreement delivers on all three ingredients required to successfully launch an air taxi service – a definitive path to operations, well-placed infrastructure supported by dedicated partners, and an aircraft with the capacity and range to deliver meaningful journeys.

Yesterday only, Joby’s founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt was stressing the importance of Electric taxis in combating rising road traffic and air pollution at ETNow Global Business Summit 2024.
He said:
“India is a dynamic place and has reputation to embrace emerging technology fast and I believe electric air taxi to provide India an incredible opportunity to leapfrog other nations to provide low-cost, high-speed, green transportation in a way that has not been possible before,”
Besides many other venture-backed funds, the company has raised a $590-million-funding round, led by Toyota Motor Corporation.
