The highly anticipated Lexus UPTOWN Honors Hollywood, which honors cultural trailblazers in film and television who have positively influenced how Black people are portrayed through their outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry, is returning. The event is presented by luxury car brand Lexus and UPTOWN magazine. The Sunset Room in Hollywood will host the event on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
This event, which takes place at the height of award season, celebrates the achievements of creatives who are frequently disregarded and might not have otherwise been able to receive recognition for them.
David Telfer, senior manager of media and advertising for Lexus, said, “Lexus UPTOWN Honors Hollywood is a celebration of greatness, tenacity, and originality.” “We honor these frequently unsung heroes who persevere in the industry and keep producing inclusive, powerful, and timely entertainment for today’s audiences, which makes this year’s awards particularly significant.”
The mission of Lexus and UPTOWN magazine to elevate diverse voices and honor the rich tapestry of talent within the Black creative community is reaffirmed by Lexus UPTOWN Honors Hollywood.
Among the esteemed recipients are:
- One well-known person in the entertainment business is Niecy Nash. She became well-known in 2003 when she portrayed Deputy Raineesha Williams in the television series “Reno 911.”
- Kim Fields works as a producer, director, and actres1s. Having performed since she was five years old, her most well-known parts have been in hit television programs including “The Facts of Life” and “Living Single.”
- Hollywood superstar Tisha Campbell is an actress, singer, and dancer. She is well known for playing “Gina” in “Martin” and in “School Daze” and “Boomerang”.
- Since her adolescent years, Essence Atkins has been a prominent actor on “The Cosby Show” and “Family Matters.” She became a famous actress after appearing in sitcoms like “Half & Half” and “Marlon.”
- Reggie Rock Bythewood is a renowned filmmaker, creator, showrunner, and director. He created and runs “Swagger.” on Apple TV+. The popular comedy “A Different WoETrld.” launched Bythewood’s writing career.
- Award-winning director/writer/producer Gina Prince-Bythewood is one of the most versatile storytellers in film and television. She wrote and directed “Love & Basketball,” “The Secret Life of Bees,” and “Beyond The Lights.” Her character-driven films are noteworthy. Her latest film was the epic “The Woman King.” She co-created and executive produced “Shots Fired,” a special event series, with her husband Reggie Rock Bythewood.
- These outstanding individuals have not only endured but also shaped film and television, particularly in promoting positive Black portrayal.
The invitation-only Oscar week party will be held at the Sunset Room at 1439 N. Ivar Ave. in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 6. After the red carpet opens at 6:00 p.m., the main event begins at 7:00. A special after-party will be held from 9:30 to 11:00.
