The Mouse That Rocked: A Tribute to Stanley Mouse will be released on April 12, 2024, in honor of the legendary artwork created by Stanley Mouse. The album presents songs by bands that have been included in Mouse’s renowned artwork from the 1960s, including classic Fillmore and Avalon ballroom posters, album covers, and more.
Stanley Mouse is credited with creating the face on rock music and is well-known for his surreal record and billboard art. Twelve new songs from a wide range of artists—Chuck Leavell, Leftover Salmon, Charlie Musselwhite, Nicole Atkins, Shawn Sahm & The Tex Mex Experience, Junior Brown, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Poor Man’s Whiskey, The Mother Hips, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, Jason Crosby, and the Pimps of Joytime—honor his influence through The Mouse That Rocked.
The music of Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Beatles, Howlin’ Wolf, Journey, Cream, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Bo Diddley, Sir Douglas Quintet, Moby Grape, and, of course, Stanley Mouse himself is included in this musical journey.
When considering Mickey’s incredible development as an artist, it’s possible to follow his path from his early hot rod monster T-shirt designs to his captivating ballroom posters in San Francisco and, finally, to the era of record-breaking album covers. His inventiveness is currently manifested in classic and modern oil paintings, exhibiting a range of work that crosses genres with a timeless quality.
Joe Poletto, the founder of Blue Rose Music, adds, “Our team wanted to celebrate Mouse’s legacy because he has been a close friend for years.” “We can honor Mickey Mouse’s ongoing influence on music and art by asking modern artists to rework songs by bands that appear in his artwork.”
In addition to honoring Mouse’s creative accomplishments, The Mouse That Rocked has a humanitarian objective. “The Blue Rose Foundation, which is committed to giving preschool scholarships to impoverished children, will get 100% of the proceeds from record sales,” states producer David Gross. “Now, lovers of Mouse can enjoy a musical celebration of one of the most important performers in rock history while also helping a worthy cause.”
More than just an album, The Mouse That Rocked: A Tribute to Stanley Mouse is a monument to the persistent ability of music, art, and charity to change the world for the better.
